Exploring Bromo's Whispering Sands with Shintya Afrilia at Fjällräven Discovery Indonesia 2024 – A Perfect blend of Adventure, Friendship, Healing, and Nature.

Introduction and Context:

  • Hello Shintya, how are you? Hi kak! I'm good
  • Would you mind introducing yourself and share a bit about your role at Outside?

Hi, I’m Shintya! I’ve been working at Outside since 2021, back in the COVID days. I’m a store staff there. I assist customers and answer questions, handle sales and payments, also restock shelves and keep the store organized

  • How and/or when did you start loving outdoor activities?

I started loving outdoor activities when I began working at Outside

  • What were your favorite trips so far?

I joined the Bromo Discovery 2024 because the activities are just that fun!

  • What motivated you to join Fjallraven’s Discovery Bromo trekking trip?

Got a bunch of new experiences, and it's my first time joining such a cool event, especially with the Outside crew!

The Experience:

  • How was the overall experience of trekking at Bromo for you? What were the highlights?

Honestly, it was amazing! I had such a blast meeting other Outside staff and bonding over Tuku coffee at the campsite. The whole vibe was just so cool and fun!

  • What was the most challenging part of the trek, and how did you overcome it?

Trekking through the sea of sand was wild! It was super tough with the sandstorm, but I found a hack—walking backward! It sounds crazy, but it worked, and it actually made the whole thing way more fun

  • What surprised you the most about the Bromo landscape and the trekking experience itself?

The views, hands down! People always talk about Bromo, but nothing prepared me for how stunning it actually is—like, jaw-dropping beauty behind every corner.

  • Can you describe a memorable moment or encounter during the trip?

Definitely the night at the campsite! The sky was so clear, and the stars were just magical. And don’t even get me started on the sunrise—totally unforgettable!

Tips and Recommendations:

  • What essential gear or products from our shop would you recommend for someone planning a similar trekking trip?

You definitely need a few key things: a buff to keep dust and sun off your face, a warm and waterproof jacket, a good sleeping bag, sturdy hiking shoes, a reliable carrier, a durable tumbler, and a bucket hat to shield your eyes from the sun.

  • How did our products (if applicable) help or enhance your experience on this trip?

The Fjallraven Keb 52 carrier was a game-changer; it was incredibly comfortable even with 14 kg of gear, making the hike way easier. My Keen shoes were top-notch—super comfy and waterproof, which made navigating the tricky terrain a breeze. And the Tatonka sleeping bag? It kept me cozy and warm throughout those chilly nights at the campsite.

Future Events and Encouragement:

  • What advice would you give to someone who is considering joining one of our future events?

Definitely start getting in shape beforehand to make the trek easier. Also, pack only the essentials—don’t overload yourself with unnecessary gear.

  • How do you think participating in such events can benefit others, both personally and professionally?

You’ll gain a ton of practical experience and skills specific to outdoor adventures. Plus, you’ll meet fellow outdoor enthusiasts from around the world, which can make the experience even more rewarding and fun.

  • How has this experience influenced your perspective on hiking and outdoor adventures?

It’s made me really appreciate teamwork, spending time together, and the amazing beauty of nature. Hiking lets you take a break from your usual routine, which can be a great way to avoid burnout.

  • Would you participate in another event like this, and if so, what would you look forward to?

Definitely, I’d be in for sure! I’m excited for the next event because it’s always a blast. I’m especially looking forward to tackling new challenging trails and of course enjoying some Tuku coffee again lol
